  Radiation and Terrorism: Risk, Risk Perception and Risk Communication

This course is a 1/2 day workshop addressing radiological issues including: defining ionizing radiation, methods and routes of exposure, biological effects, dirty bombs and nuclear devices, detection, radiation safety, preparedness and response and medical issues.  This workshop is designed to increase the knowledge and awareness of radiological issues for Health Departments, Law Enforcement, Fire, Emergency Management, Local Officials, and staff from Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Public Schools and non-governmental organizations involved in emergency response.

US DOE Radiological Specialist Pilot Course

       October 2-4

         Harrisburg, PA

 

PURPOSE:  The purpose of this course is to certify selected individuals in a recognized Radiation Specialist Training program.  This course will incorporate National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliance items, 49 Code of Federal Regulation 2004 changes, and refinement of NFPA 472 standard recommendations.

Effective Risk Communication Workshop

        October  9-10

        Clarksville, MD

 

Workshop is FREE and open to all stakeholders involved in risk communication, public health and emergency preparedness and response, including: state and local government, health department staff, emergency preparedness and health planners, emergency management, hospital emergency coordinators, planners and PIOs.

      The Worcester County Department of Emergency Services, Worcester County Hazmat Team and Worcester County LEPC will be sponsoring  "Building Confidence Without Ghost Stories".

      The seminar is being conducted by retired Baltimore City Battalion Chief C.B. “Buzz” Melton on Saturday, October 13th repeated on Sunday, October 14th at the Worcester County Fire Training Center, 6743 Central Site Lane, Newark, Maryland just off U.S. Rt.113.  There will be a classroom session from 8:00 AM to Noon with a live acid exercise from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.  Lunch will be provided.  The seminar is FREE!

Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program Training Course

        October 16-19, 2007

        Philadelphia, PA 

 

The HSEEP Mobile Training Course is a three and one half-day, intermediate-level training course that incorporates exercise guidance and best practices.  It is an interactive course that allows participants to share personal lessons learned and best practices while gaining practical experience.  In addition to the instructor-led course presentations, the course includes small group activities, videos, group discussions, and introductions to HSEEP and related initiatives such as supporting technology (HSEEP Toolkit) and capabilities-based planning.  Activities include creating exercise documentation, conducting planning conferences and briefings, and practicing exercise evaluation.
